Because We LOVE landlubbers! \n10AM – Kayak Check-In and registration begins\n11-12:30 Launch Boats\n1PM – On water procession begins\n2PM – On-stage program begins at Jack Block Park\n3:30PM – On-stage program ends and all vessels return to launch sites. \nKayak rentals will be available for folks who don’t have boats (sliding scale). Kayak instructors will help orient individuals with limited experience. SUMMARY:BikeLoudPDX Die-In to protest ODOT's deadly Portland arterials
DESCRIPTION:A follow-up to Monday’s protest of the danger of Powell Blvd\, highlighted most recently by the crash that took off Alistair Corkett’s leg.\nMonday’s protest:\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1057435414283935/  \nProtest on SE Powell slows traffic\, draws big crowd \n \nThe Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is the agency almost completely responsible for the conditions on Powell Blvd. and the other Portland state highways (e.g. Barbur Blvd.\, 82nd Ave.) It has consistently refused to prioritize safety\, prioritizing motor vehicle capacity instead.  \nThis is why we are organizing a “Die-in!” at ODOT Region 1 headquarters downtown. We will show the deadly consequences of ODOT’s priorities by acting as the dead and wounded victims of crashes on Powell Blvd. Please bring a white shirt that you are willing to have stains on if you are able; we will bring fake blood! \nMore info about ODOT:\nWe believe ODOT\, with its focus on auto capacity and transport between cities\, is the wrong agency to control arterials within cities.  \nODOT has consistently prioritized auto capacity over lives. This is why 26th Ave. does not have a left-turn signal at Powell\, which would have prevented this accident. In the past\, ODOT refused to put in a left-turn signal because it would slow down cars on Powell. How many limbs and lives does it take to be worth a few seconds or minutes? \nThe problems on Powell are not isolated to the area around 26th. Indeed\, Powell is more neglected and deadly in East Portland. There are no sidewalks on Powell in the vast majority of its length past I-205. Marked crosswalks are few and far between. \nThis is why are calling on the state legislature to pass a bill to transfer Powell and the other urban state highways in Portland to the control of the City of Portland. We are also calling on ODOT to prioritize funding to bring Powell and the other urban state highways up to standards minimally sufficient for city life (sidewalks and crosswalks would be a good start). The City’s Bureau of Transportation\, though not perfect\, is at least more directly responsive to local safety concerns than ODOT. \nThis protest organized by BikeLoudPDX (Monday’s was not – though awesome!)

SUMMARY:Nestle Public Comment Town Hall Hosted by Rep. Nosse
DESCRIPTION:Many constituents have contacted Rep. Nosse’s office regarding the proposed Nestle Bottled Water Plant in Cascade Locks\, expressing a number of concerns about it. Rep. Nosse understands the importance of protecting our public water\, which is one of our most valued resources. At the request of many constituents he has written a letter to the ODFW Director expressing the many concerns of people in his district\, but he knows that folks in SE Portland have many additional questions & concerns. \nThe Oregon Water Resources Department has regulatory authority over water rights transfers and is the state agency that will approve or deny these applications. OWRD’s public comment period on the project extends through May 14th\, and Rep. Nosse understands that many busy working families don’t have time to find out how to submit comment to state agencies.  \nTo make things convenient for his constituents\, Rep. Nosse is holding an event on Saturday\, 5/9/15 from 11am-1pm at SEIU Local 49 (3536 SE 26th Ave\, Portland\, OR 97202).  \nParking will be available\, but we encourage using public transportation if at all possible. Information on the proposed plant will be available\, as well as laptop stations and paper forms so people can easily & conveniently make their voice heard. The Nosse office & additional volunteers will also be available to take down folks’ input in greater detail for OWRD. \nProtecting Oregon’s natural resources is a priority for Rep.
